New Law

As of 1 September, 2013, Texas CHL renewals no longer require a continuing education class or shooting practical.

Renewing a CHL

You may start the process by paying the application fee by credit card on the DPS website at http://www.texasonline.state.tx.us/NASApp/txdps/chl/common/jsp/welcome.jsp. If you would rather submit your application by mail, you may pay with a personal check. This process is considerably more complicated than renewing online. Go to the DPS site and download the forms.

If you don't renew before your license expires you have one year to submit a renewal application. If you wait past that date you will have to start over to get a new license.
